About the Sylvan Beach Master Plan
Sylvan Beach Park has served the community for many years. A Master Plan is being developed to guide future changes at the park. Harris County Precinct 2 and the County Engineer’s Office are leading this project.
The plan addresses four main areas:
What Is This Project?
This project creates a long-term plan for potential improvements at Sylvan Beach Park. The plan will outline how the park might better serve the community through facility updates, shoreline protection, and changes to the visitor experience.
Why is it happening?
Over time, hurricanes and beach erosion have affected parts of the park. Some facilities and infrastructure are aging. Community needs and expectations for public spaces have also changed.
Project Progress And Timeline
The project began in mid-2025 with the development of the Community Engagement Plan. Community outreach is currently underway to connect with area residents, park visitors, and local organizations to gather input on the park’s future.
What’s Next
- September 4, 2025 – Stakeholder Roundtable #1 with neighborhood associations, civic leaders, and business owners to provide input before the larger community meetings.
- October 8, 2025 – Community Meeting #1 at La Porte High School (6:30-7:30 PM). The project team will present early master plan concepts and gather community feedback.
- December 17, 2025 – Community Meeting #2 at Sylvan Beach Pavilion (6 PM). Updated plans based on community input will be presented for final feedback.
Future Milestones
After the public meetings in late 2025, the project team will incorporate community feedback into the final Master Plan. This plan will serve as a roadmap for improving Sylvan Beach Park in the years ahead, with implementation to follow as funding and priorities are determined.
